Bicycle Safety Concerns in Northeast Los Angeles

The intersection of York Blvd and N Avenue 64 sits in a bustling area of Highland Park, known for its pedestrian and bicycle activity. As cycling has grown in popularity across Los Angeles, so too have the risks associated with riding in dense urban traffic, particularly at night.

According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, nighttime collisions between vehicles and bicycles remain a leading cause of cycling-related injuries in Los Angeles County. Factors such as reduced visibility, narrow roadways, and high-speed turns contribute to the dangers cyclists face—especially at busy intersections like York and Avenue 64.

Safety advocates continue to call for better lighting, expanded bike lanes, and heightened driver awareness in neighborhoods with high levels of bike traffic. Cyclists are also encouraged to wear reflective gear, use lights, and adhere strictly to traffic laws.
