San Jose, CA (June 2, 2025) – A three-vehicle collision caused injuries and temporary traffic disruption Monday morning on westbound State Route 237 near the North First St off-ramp in San Jose. The crash was first reported at approximately 9:48 AM, prompting a swift response from local fire and emergency crews.

Emergency responders arrived to find multiple vehicles blocking lanes, including a black Mercedes with moderate rear-end damage. Paramedics assessed at least one driver who appeared to have suffered injuries. That individual was later transported to a nearby hospital for further medical evaluation.

Fire personnel and the California Highway Patrol worked together to clear the scene. Tow services removed the damaged Mercedes, and all traffic lanes were reopened by 10:24 AM after vehicles were moved to the right shoulder. Investigators are still reviewing the sequence of events that led to the crash.

We extend our hopes for a full and prompt recovery to those injured in today’s incident.

Highway Crashes in California

Multi-vehicle collisions on major commuter corridors like SR-237 are a persistent concern for Bay Area drivers. This stretch of highway near North First St is a common chokepoint, particularly during weekday mornings when traffic is dense and drivers frequently switch lanes or brake suddenly.

Crashes involving multiple vehicles often result from high speeds, limited following distance, or inattention. While CHP continues to investigate the cause of Monday morning’s incident, the circumstances reflect a common pattern seen throughout Santa Clara County’s high-traffic zones.

California’s Department of Transportation has implemented numerous strategies to improve safety on routes like SR-237, including improved signage, traffic sensors, and ramp metering. However, congestion and driver behavior remain major risk factors, especially during peak commute hours.

Victims of highway collisions are encouraged to seek medical care even for seemingly minor injuries, as well as access appropriate recovery resources that can help manage medical costs and loss of income.
