Fullerton, CA (April 14, 2025) – A tragic multi-vehicle collision claimed the lives of two individuals Saturday morning at the intersection of East Orangethorpe Ave and South State College Blvd in Fullerton. The crash, which involved a Tesla, a Toyota pickup truck, and an Orange County Transit Authority (OCTA) bus, was reported after the Tesla reportedly ran a red light.
According to initial reports, a white Tesla was traveling westbound on E Orangethorpe Ave when it failed to stop at a red light and entered the intersection at S State College Blvd. The Tesla collided with a gray Toyota pickup truck and then struck an OCTA bus that was passing through the intersection.
Medics and fire crews worked to assist those suffering from injuries after the collision. Despite their efforts, two people—whose identities have not yet been released—were pronounced dead at the scene. Other individuals involved in the crash, including potential passengers on the transit bus, were evaluated for injuries.
The intersection was closed for several hours as investigators from the Fullerton Police Department conducted an extensive review of the scene. Authorities are working to determine whether speed, distraction, or impairment played a role in the fatal crash.
Our hearts go out to the families and friends of the individuals who lost their lives in this devastating incident.
Dangers of Red-Light Violations in Urban Intersections
Collisions caused by red-light violations are among the most dangerous in urban traffic environments. High-speed impact combined with cross-traffic often results in severe injuries or fatalities, particularly in multi-vehicle situations like this one.
In California, red-light running continues to be a major contributor to intersection fatalities. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), over 900 people are killed annually in the United States due to red-light-related crashes, and thousands more suffer serious injuries.
Busy intersections such as E Orangethorpe Ave and S State College Blvd in Fullerton serve as key routes for both private and public transportation. When drivers ignore signals at these junctions, the consequences can be devastating, as demonstrated in this tragic event.
Authorities urge all drivers to approach intersections with caution, especially during high-traffic hours. Obeying traffic signals, reducing speed when approaching lights, and remaining alert are crucial steps to prevent fatal crashes.
If you or someone you love has been affected by a serious crash, it’s important to understand your rights and the steps you can take toward healing and recovery.
