Chino, CA (April 8, 2025) – A violent solo-vehicle crash involving a Tesla Model 3 claimed the lives of two people early Monday morning and left two others, including a baby, injured. The collision occurred around 2:00 a.m. on the westbound 60 Freeway near Reservoir Street, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Authorities stated that the Tesla was traveling westbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the 21-year-old female driver lost control of the vehicle. The car collided with the center divider, then traveled up a dirt embankment before coming to rest. Both the driver and a male passenger, believed to be in his 30s, were pronounced dead at the scene.

A woman in her 20s and an infant were also in the vehicle and were transported to a local hospital. CHP reported both survivors were in stable condition as of Monday morning.

The crash forced a full closure of the westbound lanes of the 60 Freeway for several hours while authorities conducted their investigation and cleared the wreckage. All lanes were reopened by approximately 5:30 a.m.

Our deepest condolences go out to the families and loved ones of the two individuals who lost their lives in this tragic incident. We also extend our wishes for a swift recovery to the surviving woman and child.

Solo-Vehicle Fatal Crashes on California Freeways

Solo-vehicle collisions like this one on the 60 Freeway are often linked to factors such as speed, fatigue, mechanical failure, or driver inattention. In this case, investigators are working to determine whether any of these or other conditions—such as wet roads or roadway design—played a role in the crash.

The 60 Freeway through Chino is a busy corridor known for high-speed travel and complex merging zones. Crashes involving Teslas or other high-performance vehicles often attract further scrutiny due to the potential involvement of driver-assist technologies, though no such involvement has been confirmed in this incident.

According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, solo-vehicle accidents are a leading cause of roadway fatalities, particularly among young drivers.

Drivers are reminded to always maintain safe speeds, especially during overnight hours, and to remain fully alert—particularly when transporting passengers, including children.
