Calabasas, CA (June 2, 2025) – A six-vehicle collision involving a semi-truck and multiple passenger vehicles caused lane closures and left several people injured Monday morning on northbound US-101 near Las Virgenes Rd. The crash was first reported at approximately 7:55 AM and caused major disruption during the morning commute.
According to California Highway Patrol logs, the crash began when a trailer detached from a semi-truck and struck several vehicles, including a white Tesla Model Y, Audi Q8, and Dodge Ram. At least one child was reported injured and evaluated by Los Angeles County Fire Department responders at the scene. Several others sustained minor injuries and were treated on-site or transported to nearby facilities.
The crash blocked all northbound lanes for more than an hour as emergency personnel worked to assist victims, remove damaged vehicles, and repair a highway expansion plate impacted by the collision. Tow units from EZ Towing, Platinum Tow, and Northridge Towing were dispatched to clear the scene. A full SigAlert was issued but lifted later in the morning once lanes were gradually reopened.
CHP has not yet confirmed the exact sequence of events, but the trailer separation appears to be the initiating factor in the crash.
We send our thoughts to the injured individuals, including the child reported hurt, and hope for their quick and complete recovery.
Multi-Vehicle Crashes and Truck Hazards in California
Monday’s six-vehicle collision on US-101 near Las Virgenes Rd highlights how a single mechanical failure—like a detached trailer—can lead to widespread chaos on California’s busiest highways. When commercial vehicle equipment fails at high speeds, the risk of multi-car pileups becomes dramatically higher, especially during heavy commuter traffic.
California’s freeways, particularly those in the Los Angeles metro area, see hundreds of thousands of vehicles daily. High-speed traffic combined with unpredictable events like trailer detachment, sudden braking, or driver confusion can result in devastating crashes. In this case, the involvement of multiple passenger vehicles and the presence of injured children underscore the real and immediate human toll of such incidents.
The state enforces strict commercial vehicle safety regulations, but this event serves as a reminder of the consequences when equipment fails. It also illustrates the importance of rapid emergency response coordination—including medical aid, roadway engineering teams, and safe traffic rerouting.
For crash victims, especially families with children, getting the right help early on is vital for both physical and emotional recovery.
