Los Angeles, CA (May 18, 2025) – A multi-vehicle crash involving a police cruiser left seven people injured Saturday afternoon in the Vermont Vista neighborhood of South Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The collision occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m., near the intersection of W 111th Pl and S Grand Ave. First responders, including paramedics, assessed and treated the injured individuals at the scene. Authorities confirmed that seven people were hurt in total, with two of the victims requiring hospitalization for minor injuries.

Among the vehicles involved was a police cruiser, though it remains unclear what role it played in the crash. One of the vehicles reportedly sheared a fire hydrant during the collision, sending a geyser of water several stories into the air as emergency crews worked to stabilize the scene.

The intersection was temporarily closed while firefighters and law enforcement personnel secured the area, assisted victims, and began an investigation into what caused the crash.

Our thoughts are with all those injured in this serious incident, and we wish them a full and speedy recovery.

The Complexities of Multi-Vehicle Crashes in South Los Angeles

Crashes involving multiple vehicles—especially those that include emergency service vehicles like police cruisers—require careful investigation and present heightened risks for all parties involved. Urban intersections such as W 111th Pl and S Grand Ave are often busy, high-conflict traffic zones where collisions can lead to chain reactions, extensive property damage, and multiple injuries.

In Vermont Vista and other parts of South Los Angeles, narrow streets, limited visibility, and fast-moving cross traffic increase the chances of multi-vehicle incidents. When infrastructure like fire hydrants is damaged, additional hazards such as flooding, reduced traction, and power outages may follow.

Victims of injury crashes should always prioritize immediate medical care and cooperate with investigators. Documenting the crash, securing witness statements, and seeking legal support—particularly when city vehicles or public property are involved—can significantly affect both recovery and legal outcomes.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a multi-vehicle crash in Los Angeles, timely action is essential to ensuring your health, protecting your rights, and securing fair compensation.
