Lower Lake, CA (April 28, 2025) – A serious head-on collision early Saturday morning on Highway 29 left one woman critically injured. The crash, which involved a fuel tanker truck and a sedan, occurred around 3:55 a.m. north of Hofacker Lane near Lower Lake, according to information from the California Highway Patrol’s Clear Lake Area office.
Investigators stated that Brenda Lee Sandage, 64, was driving northbound on Highway 29 when, for reasons still under investigation, she crossed into the southbound lane directly in the path of an oncoming fuel tanker. Despite the tanker driver’s attempts to avoid a collision, a head-on impact occurred. Emergency responders arrived quickly to assist, and Sandage was airlifted via medical helicopter to Kaiser Vacaville for treatment of major injuries.
The driver of the fuel tanker truck was not injured in the crash. Authorities have not confirmed whether impairment was a factor; an investigation into the circumstances of the collision is ongoing.
Our thoughts are with Ms. Sandage and her family as she undergoes treatment and recovery.
Truck Accidents in California
Saturday’s major collision near Lower Lake serves as a stark reminder of the dangers presented by accidents involving large commercial vehicles. Crashes between passenger cars and tanker trucks often result in devastating injuries due to the size and weight disparity between the vehicles. In rural areas like Lake County, where lighting may be limited and roads can be winding or narrow, the risks increase even further.
According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, head-on collisions, although less common than other crash types, are responsible for a disproportionately high number of serious injuries and fatalities. Accidents involving tanker trucks add an extra layer of risk, as these vehicles often carry hazardous materials that could pose additional dangers after a crash.
Victims of major trucking accidents often face extensive medical treatment, prolonged recovery periods, and complex insurance claims. Ensuring that accident victims have access to appropriate medical care, legal guidance, and emotional support is critical for navigating the aftermath of such traumatic events.
At the same time, transportation authorities continue working toward improved safety protocols, including better signage, driver education campaigns, and stricter monitoring of commercial traffic along rural highways.
If you or someone you love has been involved in a serious accident with a commercial vehicle, it is vital to connect with trusted resources that can offer guidance and support through every step of the recovery process.
