Pedestrian Fatalities and Hit-and-Runs in Los Angeles

Hit-and-run collisions continue to be a deadly problem in Los Angeles, particularly involving pedestrians. According to LAPD data, thousands of hit-and-run incidents occur annually, and many of them result in injury or death.

Devonshire Street, especially in lower-lit areas, can be hazardous at night for pedestrians—particularly when drivers are speeding, distracted, or under the influence. This tragic case highlights the risks faced by Good Samaritans and pedestrians alike when crossing or entering major roadways.

California law mandates that all drivers involved in a crash must stop, provide aid, and report the incident. Fleeing the scene of a fatal crash is a felony offense with severe legal consequences.

LAPD continues to prioritize hit-and-run investigations and encourages community members to report any leads anonymously if needed.
