Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Head of Negotiations and Settlement to join our Los Angeles office and lead the firm’s settlement strategy and negotiations, with a focus on evaluating claims, maximizing case value, and achieving exceptional recoveries for our clients.

The ideal candidate is a confident and results-driven negotiator with strong personal injury experience and a proven ability to negotiate directly with insurance carriers. You will work closely with our case management team to evaluate liability, injuries, medical treatment, damages, and coverage, and develop effective strategies to achieve the best possible settlement outcomes.

This is a full-time, onsite position at our Westwood headquarters. It is not hybrid or remote.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of pre-litigation personal injury cases, with a focus on case valuation and maximizing settlements.
  • Evaluate liability, injuries, medical treatment, damages, insurance coverage, policy limits, and other factors affecting case value.
  • Develop and execute effective settlement and negotiation strategies based on the facts, damages, coverage, and litigation exposure.
  • Negotiate directly with insurance adjusters and carriers from initial demand through final resolution, including challenging low offers and disputed claims.
  • Review medical records, bills, accident reports, photographs, and other evidence to strengthen claims and support settlement demands.
  • Prepare, review, and strengthen comprehensive settlement demand packages.
  • Work closely with case managers to identify missing information, develop claims, and ensure cases are positioned for maximum recovery.
  • Communicate with clients regarding settlement offers, negotiations, and resolution, involving attorneys when legal guidance is required.
  • Identify cases requiring litigation escalation and coordinate a smooth transition to litigation counsel.
  • Coordinate liens, subrogation, Medicare, Medi-Cal, ERISA, and other reimbursement issues affecting settlements.
  • Maintain accurate case notes, negotiation history, correspondence, and settlement activity in the firm’s case management system.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and case management to ensure timely case progression and the strongest possible settlement outcomes.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Prior personal injury experience, with substantial pre-litigation settlement negotiation experience.
  • Proven ability to negotiate directly with insurance adjusters and carriers and achieve favorable settlements.
  • Strong knowledge of personal injury claims, case valuation, liability, medical treatment, damages, insurance coverage, and policy limits.
  • Experience preparing, reviewing, and negotiating personal injury settlement demands.
  • Experience handling significant, complex, or high-value bodily injury claims preferred.
  • Knowledge of California personal injury and insurance practices, including comparative liability, UM/UIM claims, and coverage issues.
  • Experience with liens, subrogation, Medicare, Medi-Cal, ERISA, and medical liens preferred.
  • Experience with a plaintiff-side personal injury firm, insurance carrier, or claims organization preferred.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to independently manage a substantial caseload in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong technology skills and ability to quickly learn case management systems.
  • Professional, client-focused approach with sound judgment and strong follow-through.
